Manland North is our Member of the Month for February 2012!

It has been a long time coming that My Bro's MANLAND is featured. He has worked long hours to make this site what it is with beer reviews, forums, product reviews, graphics etc. His MANLAND was the inspiration to create my own and start this site. So I raise a frosty mug of goodness his way and say job well done!

BARMEN BRO!

Without further ado, I give you MANLAND NORTH! -- Manland South

MANLAND NORTH'S BENT PROP PUB!

Member of the Month Q&A

Does your MANLAND have a name?

My garage was originally given the name “Manland” by my good buddy and fellow MANLANDER Jason. It was later changed to “Manland North” because I live north of my brother, Manland South. So we became known as North and South ...

I recently came up with the name “Bent Prop Pub” because I had an old aluminum prop that I pulled from a junk pile at work. I might make some T-shirts that say, “I got bent at the Bent Prop Pub!”

Where is your MANLAND located?

It is the one-car side of a three-car garage. But I'm slowly taking over the other side as well ...

Why do you have a MANLAND?

The idea came to me one Sunday afternoon as I was chilling with a cold beer in my garage. I had just finished mowing the lawn and it hit me: I had a beer fridge, an old couch, and cable running into the garage. I spent about a month consolidating Christmas shit, kids bikes, etc. before I was able to focus on the layout. The original Manland North had tan walls, a dartboard, a TV and a wall-mounted Basketball game. My first neon – Coors Light – was given to me from a neighbor. It broke about a year later in an unfortunate beer-drinking accident. (Moment of silence, please!) I wish I had pictures of the garage from those early days.

What was the inspiration for creating your MANLAND?

The spark for creating my Manland was to have a place to hang out with my bro when he would come up to visit. My wife loves that I have a dedicated spot that's out of the house for he and I to chill out – pre-garage days, my bro and I would hang out in the house. Out in the garage, there's no worrying about picking up beer bottles, smelling "acceptable," etc. And we can do dude stuff like fart, burp, scratch shit that itches, spit sunflower seeds on the floor, and cuss. HELL YA!

What is your favorite MANLAND moment to date?

Anytime I get to hang with my bro or another Manlander here is awesome. But if I had to pick a specific event, it would be my 40th B Day party three years ago or last year when the Packers won the Superbowl. That was an incredible moment that was shared with the family.

What is your most cherished MANLAND possession?

Probably a few of my neons. In particular, my Corona Sea Plane, Boddingtons Bee, and Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. My Green Bay Packers hat that Aaron Rodgers signed last July would also be on that list.

Which brand of beer do you most often stock in your fridge or kegerator?

It used to be Corona. I then started doing beer reviews here on Manland three years ago and became a craft-beer convert. If you open my beer fridge on any weekend, you'll always find something new – I love trying different beers from around the world. I'm particularity fond of Brown Ales, Stouts, IPAs, Belgian Dubbels, Flanders Brown/Red, Sours, and English-style brews. Today I'm looking forward to trying a sour Brown Ale from New Belgium.

What is your favorite band / CD to crank in MANLAND?

Usually something from AC/DC, although as a musician, I dig most all styles of music. The neighbors get to hear anything from Pantera to ZZ Top, Rush to Johnny Cash, or Throwdown to Miles Davis. Sometimes they hear it louder than I'm sure they prefer depending on the occasion and number of beers consumed ...

If you could share a beer with one person (famous or not) in your MANLAND, who would it be?

First and foremost, my Grandfather William. He died when I was 8, so I never really got to know him very well. He owned a construction company and was the Mayor of the small town South and I are from in Upper Michigan. His work ethic still inspires me to this day.

Second on that list would be Kim Kardashian so my Son Erik could meet her. (HA!)

A photo of Kim K. For my Son. Really.

If money was no object, what one item would you purchase for your MANLAND?

Kim Kardashian so my Son Erik could meet her.

Words of advice for those just starting to create their MANLAND/Mancave:

Enjoy the process and don't get too anxious to finish. Your Manland will never be complete – you'll always be searching for new items, etc. That's what makes this so much fun. Also, use websites like ours and mancavesite.org for inspiration and ideas. You can always ask our members how they created a particular item or where they found a sign, etc. Just have fun with it and share the process with your fellow Manlanders along the way.

I'd like to say thanks to my brother, MANLAND SOUTH, for having the inspiration to create this site three years ago. It originally started as a way for the two of us to share pictures of our garages with each other and have a central spot to hang out online when we couldn't hang in person. It has grown to over 1,300 members around the world and has inspired both of us. Thanks to all of our members who make this site what it is – CHEERS!
